AAYSP-Michigan educational workshop at Frontier High

On the 16th of December, the American Association of Yemeni Scientists and Professionals held an educational workshop at Frontier High School, Hamtramck in coordination with the 21st Century Program sponsored by the Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services, ACCESS. The workshop was attended by a large number of students from the school and the 21st Century program teachers and administrators.The program’s supervisor and teacher, Ms. Ghazaleh Beydoun welcomed the Association members for coming.

 Adel Mozip, President of the AAYSP Michigan Chapter spoke to students about the importance of higher education and a college degree. He then went to explain how he went through high school and college given that he was a newcomer to the U.S. when he started college.  Adel stressed the importance of finishing education  since it’s the only way to change one’s lives to the better. Adel then explained how to discover colleges, scholarships, and financial aid.
 

Afterwards,  on behalf of the Yemeni American News, Mr. Mohamed Aldeus, a Yemeni American writer and teacher spoke to students and talked about the importance of education and on the cultural and ethnic diversity in American society and how to build relationships with others on the basis of mutual respect.  Mr. Aldeus also talked about respecting others as we wish to be respected. He emphasized on doing well in school to benefit oneself, one’s family, and the entire society. 
At the end, the group went in Q&A sessions where they asked the visitors variety of questions.  AAYSP members including Mona Namer and Murtadha Obeid participated in the discussions and helped in  handing out college flyers and AAYSP survey to students. AAYSP-Michigan and its members would like to thank Ms. Ghazleh Baydoun, 21st Century program volunteers, and Mr. Aldeus for making this event possible.
